You can make it from 1 to 7 layers according to your favorite.
Ingredients of the dry apple cake:
- 5 ½ cups unbleached flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
- 2 ½ cups light brown sugar, firmly packed
- 2 eggs
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- ½ cup buttermilk
The following are the steps to make dry apple cake:
1, Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F. Grease and flour 7 (9-inch) cake pans and set aside.
2, In a large bowl combine the flour, salt, baking powder, baking soda, and cinnamon.
3, In a separate mixing bowl beat the butter at medium speed until creamy. Gradually add in the sugar, and continue to beat for 2 to 3 minutes. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla. Alternately add the flour mixture and the buttermilk to the butter mixture, beating at a low speed after each addition until just combined. The dough will be stiff.
4, Divide the dough evenly among the prepared pans, placing approximately ¾ cup dough into each pan. With floured hands, press the dough into the pans evenly. Bake the cakes for 10 minutes or until a golden crust forms. Remove from the oven and turn the layers out onto a wire rack to cool completely. Each cake layer will be ¼- to 3/8-inch think.
5, To assemble the cake stack, spread each layer with approximately ¾ cup hot apple filling. Top the cake with the remaining apple filling. Wrap with plastic or place on a cake stand with a cover. Allow the cake to stand for at least 24 hours before serving.
